Ercros

Founded in 1989, Ercros grew out of what were once the two leading private chemical companies in Spain: Unión Explosivos Río Tinto S.A. (ERT) and Cros S.A. In 2005, it acquired the Aragonesas Group followed in 2006 by Derivados Forestales Group XXI, making it the leading non-petrochemical, non-multinational Spanish chemical company.

Ercros is an industrial group focussed on the manufacture and marketing of basic products for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as for the plastics, swimming pool water treatment and animal feed sectors.

The Company has a share capital of 161 million euros and its shares are listed on the Mercado Continuo of the Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid and Valencia Stock Markets.

The company has a workforce of over 2,000 spread across 15 production facilities.

With annual production in excess of 2.4 million tons, annual sales at Ercros amount to some 866 million euros. Its products are used by some 2,000 customers and can be found in over 90 countries worldwide.

The Company's portfolio contains a wide range of products, split into seven business lines: Basic Chemicals, Intermediate Chemicals, Plastics, Pharmaceuticals, Animal Feed, Water Treatment and Emulsions.

The Company's workforce of some 2,000 is spread across 15 production facilities located in Almussafes (Valencia), Aranjuez (Madrid), Cardona (Barcelona), Cartagena (Murcia), Cerdanyola (Barcelona), Flix (Tarragona), Monzón (Huesca), Palos de la Frontera (Huelva), Recklinghausen (Germany), Sabiñánigo (Huesca), Vila-seca I and Vila-seca II (Tarragona), Tarragona, Tortosa (Tarragona) and the Huelva Salt flats.

All of these facilities have safety management systems and are certified or in the process of being certified under the most respected quality and environmental protection standards.

The work of the R&D teams in each business line is focussed on the development of products with greater added value and on optimising the processes used. Similarly, more emphasis is being given to the technical support of customers to improve their processes technically and environmentally.

The work of the R&D departments in each business area is centred on the development of increased value-added products and the optimisation of currently used processes. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) The vinyl chlorine monomer (VCM) manufactured in the Vila-seca plant, is used to create a series of PVC resins in two forms - suspension and emulsion - at the Vila-seca and Monzón industrial facilities. With a capacity of over 200,000 tons per annum, Ercros is one of the leading Spanish manufacturers of this polymer.

PVC composites are also produced at the Monzón factory (PVC formulations and additives) with a production capacity of some 20,000 tons per annum.

The VCM plant, located at the Tarragona Industrial Complex, is now able to produce 200,000 tons per annum of VCM, consuming close to 120,000 tons of chlorine, mostly supplied by the neighbouring chlorine and sodium electrolysis plant.

The resultant VCM is principally used for internal purposes by the facilities in the Plastics Division - Vila-seca and Monzón - to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin
