１．プロフィール
（１）社史、事業概況

オランダの化学大手アクゾノーベルは、1994年にオランダの化学・医薬品のアクゾとスウェーデンの化学大手ノーベルが合併して誕生した。ノーベルの起源は1871年、アクゾは1886年に遡るいずれも伝統企業である。事業部門はコーティング、化学、医薬品の３事業体制で、世界60ヵ国以上で事業展開している。全社売上高の４割以上を占めるコーティング事業では世界最大手である。

（２）全社事業におけるアジア市場の位置づけ
　地域別に見ると、売上全体の58％を占める欧州（ユーロ通貨圏 38％、その他の欧州諸国 20％）がアクゾノーベルの圧倒的な主力市場である。アジアのシェアは12%とまだ小さいが、急成長市場として同社が事業拡大に力をいれる地域である。中でも中国を世界で最も重要な急成長市場として位置づけ、同社の成長計画の中で主導的な役割を果たすとしている。

２．中国事業の歩みと現状
（１）概要

1970年代 　 複数の代理店を通して中国に輸出。
1986年 　 中国での主力販売代理業者だったDeveling Beheer社の株式を70％取得し、6つの地方事務所を開設。
1989年 　 香港に貿易子会社を開設。
　 　 International Paint of Shanghaiを設立。
1990年 　 中国で初めての合弁会社を設立。現地生産を開始。
1994年 　 Develing Beheerを完全買収。

AkzoNobel got approval from NDRC for ethylene amines project in Ningbo

Recently, AkzoNobel has got the approval from NDRC for its Ethylene Amines and Ethylene Oxide (EO) projects in Ningbo Chemical Industry Zone (NCIZ), Zhenhai, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

With total investment of USD 220 million (RMB 1.5 billion), these projects include 35,000 t/a ethylene amines, 73,000 t/a EO, 5,200 t/a MEG, and 96,700 t/a ethanol amines. These projects are invested solely by AkzoNobel and expected to start up in 2010.

As to feedstock, around 56,000 ton ethylene is needed for the projects, among them, 25,000 ton is planned to sourced by Sinopec Zhenhai Refining Chemical Company (ZRCC), and the rest is to purchased from the market, in Mar. 2008, AkzoNobel signed a supply agreement with Sinopec for ethylene feedscock. Around 31,000 ton ammonia is need, which will be supplied by Ningbo Siming Chemical Company ? a Ningbo based ammonia producer located at NCIZ.

According to AkzoNobel, ethylene amines are intermediates used in a wide variety of industrial applications, such as agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, plastics, cosmetics and detergents. The new plant will increase the company's service level and security of supply, in particular to its customers in China and in the rest of Asia.

Akzo Nobel は2006年10月に寧波産業区との間で進出の覚書を締結した。
同社としては世界最大の50ヘクタールの土地を確保し、エチレンアミン類のほか、有機過酸化物なども生産する予定。

同社は寧波にポリマー化触媒とパウダーコーティングの２工場を持っているほか、シノペック鎮海煉油化工がエチレンクラッカーを建設中で、いろいろの原料を入手しやすいことから同地を選択したもの。

第一期としてはインフラとキレート剤（2009年スタート）と今回の製品を、第二期としてはセルロース特殊品、エチレンアミン2期、メタルアルキル、コーティング類を計画している。

同社は中国を世界で最も重要な急成長市場として位置づけ、同社の成長計画の中で主導的な役割を果たすとしている。

AkzoNobel's Ningbo Plant Starts Production

This week, production will start at AkzoNobel's chelates facility located at the company's new Euro 275 million multi-site in Ningbo, China.
The start-up of the first activities in Ningbo means that AkzoNobel is now the only major producer of chelates with plants in Europe, North America and Asia. New ethylene amines and ethylene oxide factories are also due to begin production at the site in 2010, followed by an organic peroxides facility.

AkzoNobel makes strategic move into Chinese automotive market

AkzoNobel is to significantly boost its presence in the Chinese automotive market after agreeing to acquire Changzhou Prime Automotive Paint Co., Ltd. Financial details were not disclosed. 常州Prime汽車塗料有限公司 　江蘇省常州市

Prime is one of China’s largest vehicle refinish suppliers and a leader in the fast-growing mid-market segment. This sector is estimated to double in size within the next five years. Based in Jiangsu Province, the company develops, manufactures, markets and distributes automotive coatings, primarily for the refinish market. 

The agreement follows AkzoNobel CEO Hans Wijers’ recent announcement at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai that the company plans to double its revenue in China to $3 billion within five years.

“This is an excellent deal involving an extremely well run business which gives us strong representation in one of China’s most promising growth segments,” said AkzoNobel’s Board member responsible for Performance Coatings, Leif Darner. “Our global capability, combined with Prime’s marketplace knowledge, products and technical know-how, creates an enviable strategic proposition and will allow us to significantly grow ahead of the market.”

Through its Car Refinishes business, AkzoNobel is mainly active in China’s premium and commercial vehicle refinish sector, represented by its Sikkens, Lesonal and Miluz brands. The Prime agreement now opens up an opportunity to become the clear market leader in the attractive vehicle refinish mid-market segment.

“I am very happy to have concluded such an exciting deal, which promises great things for the future,” commented Prime Chairman and CEO, Mr Bao Yifan, who will retain a key role within the business. “With AkzoNobel’s scale and expertise, we are ideally positioned to continue growing strongly and aim to capture further market share.”

Keith Power, AkzoNobel’s Regional Director for the Car Refinishes business in Asia added:  “This is an important transaction which gives us access to superior products and new technologies ? supported by strong brands and a loyal distributor base - enabling us to gain a competitive advantage in a market with sizeable potential where we previously had limited presence.”

AkzoNobel currently employs around 6,500 people in China, with the country hosting 11 percent of the company’s Research, Development and Innovation resources. Revenue for 2009 totaled $1.5 billion.
