Yantai Huada Chemicals Industry Co.,Ltd is the joint venture established by Yantai Synthetic Leather Group Co.,Ltd and Dainippon Ink & Chemicals Industry Inc, producing multiple resins.The main products made in the company are as many as followings:
polyester polyols used for polyurethane,　polyusethane systems for shoe-soles,　polyurethane resinsfor artificial leather in both coated and coagulated processes,　thermoplastic polyurethanes(TPU), and assorted auxillaries and additives used for polyurethanes,etc.

160000 tons of MDI/y project opening ceremony of Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane Co., Ltd was held at 10am, August 8, 2003, in Daxie Development Zone, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Thermal power linking project and 120000 tons of chlorine-alkali project started working with this project at same time. The starting work and construction of this project are an important milestone in the development history of Chinese Polyurethane industry. After being set up, Yantai Wanhua will be the biggest MDI supplier in Asia and 5th in the world , making Chinese national polyurethane industry possesses the real strength in joining international competition.

The total investment of this project is estimated about 2.58 billion Yuan. Besides the self-owned funds and bank loan, the national government also bestowed 1.8 billion Yuan of national bonds discount loan to support the development of MDI industry which has closely relationship with the national economy and people's life. Main construction content of this project includes 160000 tons/y MDI equipment, affiliated with formaldehyde equipment, CO gas generating equipment, self-provided thermal power station and other assistant and public facilities. Upon completion of the project, a complete production system of raw material storage and supply, MDI production, warehousing and transportation, deposal of three kinds of waste as well as public facilities will be formed. The production process adopts advanced distributing style control system and management, as well as ESD accident emergency stop system providing security guarantee. In addition to the above equipment invested by Wanhua, the site of factory will affiliate constructing other facilities. It is estimated that after being finished completely, total investment will exceed 5 billion Yuan.

The construction of 160000 tons/y MDI project will improve Yantai Wanhua' s control capability to Chinese MDI market further and protect and promote healthy and ordered development of entire polyurethane industry. Yantai Wanhua's 160 000 T/A MDI Project in Ningbo 　煙台万華

On November 23rd, 2005 Yantai Wanhua's 160 000 t/a MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) project conducted wet commission successfully. The project is located in Daxie, Ningbo, Zhejiang province and constructed by Yantai Wanhua polyurethane Co., Ltd. headquartered in Yantai, Shandong province which is the largest MDI supplier and the sole local MDI manufacturer in China.

Yantai Wanhua starts trial operation for MDI project in Ningbo

Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes Co. (Yantai Wanhua) has successfully starte! d trial operation for its MDI project since late 2005 in Ningbo.

The MDI project is located in Daxie Island, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province; it has capacity of 160,000 t/a. According to the company, Wanhua plans expand the capacity of the new unit from 160,000 t/a to 300,000 t/a in the coming years, while expand or not will up to the market conditions.

Yantai Wanhua is the only MDI producer in China; it has a existing 100,000 t/a MDI unit in Yantai, Shandong Province. The new plant, together with the existing unit in Yantai, will make Yantai Wanhua the leading MDI producer in Asia in 2006.

Besides from Wanhua, there are some foreign MDI investors like BASF and Bayer and Huntsman aim China market.

Shanghai Lianheng Isocyanate Company - the jv of Gaoqiao petrochemical, Shanghai Huayi Group, Shanghai Chlor-Alkali Company, BASF and Huntsman, will start up its 240,000 t/a MDI project in SCIP in 2006.

Also, Bayer Polyurethane planned a 230,000 t/a MDI project in SCIP, and Bayer got the approval from government to expand the planned project by 120,000 t/a to 350,000 t/a in May, 2005. Bayer's MDI project is expected to start up in 2008.

In 2004, China imported 300,000 tonne and produced 100,000 tonne MDI. China's MDI demand is forecast to increase at 10-12% per year in the coming 5 years. So, the output of MDI would be oversupply in China market by 2008. For this reason, Yantai Wanhua has set up several offices in Russia, Singapore and Middle East to develop the oversea market.

Wanhua plans to expand MDI capacity in Ningbo  

Ningbo Wanhua Polyurethanes, the subsidiary of Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes, plans to expand the MDI capacity in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.   With investment around USD 69 million (RMB 527.7 million), Wanhua will expand the nameplate capacity to 240,000 tonne/year from the existing 160,000 tonne/year in Daxie Island, Ningbo.
According to the company, after startup of expansion, by improving, the actual maximum annual output could reach 300,000 ton. The detailed schedule for the expansion project is not disclosed yet, but it is expected to complete in 2008.  

The expansion project in Ningbo will use Wanhua's self-owned technology. Wanhua is the so-called fourth owner of large-scale MDI production technology in the world.  
In terms of technology, the company is greatly supported by government. Earlier, Wanhua received total USD 14.9 million (RMB 114 million) subsidies from Zhejiang and Shandong government, in order to boost its research and development and ensure the company speed up technological and product development.

Wanhua gets nod for new MDI project in Ningbo

Ningbo Wanhua Polyurethane Company has got the final approval from NDRC for its new large-scale MDI project in Daxie Island , Ningbo , Zhejiang Province.

With investment around USD 330 million RMB 2.5 billion, the proposed project has capacity of 300,000 ton/year. It will start construction by the end of 2007 and will be completed by H1 of 2010.

The new project will share part of the utilities with the neighbored existing MDI plant. Besides, Wanhua will also invest USD 267 million (RMB 2 billion) to build other related projects including Nitric Acid, Nitrobenzene, Aniline, Formaldehyde etc. It will use Wanhua's self-owned technology, which is greatly supported by government. Wanhua is the so-called fourth owner of large-scale MDI production technology in the world.

Ningbo MDI Project Phase II of Yantai Wanhua Approved

On October 18th, Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane Co., Ltd. (Yantai Wanghua) announced that its Ningnbo MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) project phase II has been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission.
Yantai Wanhua's Ningbo site has an existing MDI facility with a capacity of 160 thousand t/a. Based on it, Yantai Wanhua intends to newly build an additional facility to produce 300 thousand tons of MDI per year, with a total investment of approximately RMB2.5 billion. Meanwhile, the Phase II's matching facility will produce nitric acid, nitro-benzene, aminobenze, formaldehyde etc.

Wanhua Industrial to Relocate MDI Plant

Wanhua Indutrial Group Co., Ltd. prepares for relocating its existing MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) facility, following the environmental impact assessment nodded by the Ministry of Environment and Protection on December 18th, 2008.
The MDI plant is designed to relocate at the western port of Yantai Economic and Technology Development Zone, Shandong province. Under the new plan, the company will in the new site construct a 600 thousand t/a MDI facility, 300 thousand t/a TDI (toluene diisocyanate) facility, 800 thousand t/a aromatics extraction unit, 300 thousand t/a caustic soda unit, and 480 thousand t/a hydrogen chloride unit for chlorine and aniline etc as well as matching facilities.

3) Last year Wanhua got approval of a new 300kt/a MDI project in Ningbo.   

"Relocation" means Yantai Wanhua will shut up the existing plant in Yantai as the issue of environment, and the current location will be for commercial building use in the future. According to the industrial sources, the "relocation" project will cost RMB 20 billion in total and is expected to start construction in 2009 and complete in 2011.

煙台万華ポリウレタン、煙台のMDIプラント移転

煙台万華ポリウレタンはこのたび、山東省煙台のMDIプラントの移転についてNDRCの承認を得たと発表した。

同社の現在の工場周辺が商業地域になるため、煙台経済技術開発区の西港に移転するもので、現在のMDI能力20万トンを増強するとともに、新しくTDIその他も建設する。

132億人民元を投じるもので、計画内容は以下の通り。
　MDI　60万トン
　TDI　30万トン
　苛性ソーダ　30万トン
　フォルムアルデヒド　24万トン
　硫酸　54万トン
　アンモニア　18万トン
　ニトロベンゼン　48万トン
　アニリン　36万トン

同社は現在、今回廃棄する煙台の20万トンのほかに、浙江省寧波に30万トンのMDIプラントを有し、更に寧波に新しい30万トンのMDIプラントを建設中で、2010年に稼動の予定となっている。

移転完了後は同社のMDI能力は120万トン、TDI能力は30万トンとなる。

現在のところ、移転の具体的なスケデュールは発表していない。

Wanhua Chemical to build isocyanates plant in Louisiana

China’s Wanhua Chemical plans to build a $1.1 billion methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) plant in Louisiana.

Wanhua is the world’s largest producer of the polyurethane raw material, which is also made by U.S. and European firms such as BASF, Covestro, Dow Chemical, and Huntsman Corp. According to the consulting firm IHS Markit, Wanhau’s 1.8 million metric tons of annual MDI capacity represents about 24% of the world’s total.

MDI is reacted with polyols to make the polyurethanes used in rigid insulation, adhesives, and other applications.

The Chinese company hasn’t released details about the project, including the size of the plant or the start-up date. It expects to wrap up site selection later this year. It will foot about $950 million of the bill itself. An unnamed partner will invest about $170 million.

Wanhua operates two MDI plants in its home country. In 2011, it branched out overseas with the $1.7 billion purchase of the Hungarian polyurethanes maker BorsodChem. Its sales in 2015 were about $3 billion.

Last year, Wanhua CEO Zengtai Liao told C&EN that the firm was considering building a plant on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

A company that prides itself on safe and efficient operations, Wanhua suffered an explosion at its Yantai, China, plant last year that killed four. The plant was undergoing maintenance at the time.

Louisiana state officials have been discussing the project with Wanhua since 2013. The company chose Louisiana over potential locations in Texas in part because of incentives including a $4.3 million grant to help offset site infrastructure costs.

At the IHS Markit World Petrochemical Conference in Houston last month, IHS Markit senior analyst James Elliott noted that more MDI capacity would be needed over the next five years to keep up with demand, which is growing at around 4% per year globally.

The situation is particularly acute in North America. “From 2011 to 2016, we have seen a fallow period of MDI additions,” Elliot said. On the horizon for the region are incremental expansions of existing BASF and Huntsman facilities. In addition, Huntsman has been studying building a 400,000-metric-ton plant at its Geismar, La., complex since 2014.
