伊藤忠商事は、米国の細胞治療研究開発ベンチャー企業 セレクシス（ＣｅｌｌＥｘＳｙｓ，Ｉｎｃ．本社シアトル）と提携し、国内における細胞治療合弁事業設立を目指す。

２００２年７月に世界最大のバイオテク企業アムジェン（Ａｍｇｅｎ）に買収されたバイオテク企業イミュネックス（Ｉｍｍｕｎｅｘ）から、１９９２年にスピンアウトした遺伝子治療開発バイオテクベンチャー企業ターゲティッドジェネティクス（Ｔａｒｇｅｔｅｄ Ｇｅｎｅｔｉｃｓ）の子会社として２０００年に創立された（本拠地：米国シアトル）。
