DSM announces additional
production capacity for Dyneema(R) - the world’s strongest fiber -
Royal DSM N.V., the
largest manufacturer of high performance polyethylene
(HPPE)
products in the world, today announces its decision to again
invest in new production capacity for Dyneema fiber. The new unit will be built at
DSM’s facility in Greenville, North
Carolina (USA).
The investment will
amount to several tens of millions of USD, and will bring the
total number of fiber lines for the company to ten. The expansion
of DyneemaR fiber capacity is a response to the continued strong
demand in all its application areas. The new unit is expected to
come on stream early 2008. Construction is planned to start by
the end of this year.
Dyneema is produced
in Heerlen (The Netherlands) and in Greenville, North Carolina
(USA). DSM Dyneema is also a partner in a high modulus
polyethylene (HMPE) manufacturing joint venture in Japan.

Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, today announces plans for a substantial capital expenditure program, expected to involve up to USD 450 million. This will increase production capacity in its Dyneema® business, enabling DSM to capitalize on expected continuous growth in demand in the United States for the world’s strongest fiber™. DSM Dyneema’s sales have grown by more than 15% per year in recent years and DSM expects the business group to accelerate its growth path.
超高強力ポリエチレン繊維「ダイニーマ(R)」の生産能力を倍増
当社とDSM Dyneema社（本社:オランダ、社長:クリストフ・ダデ－ル）との合弁会社である日本ダイニーマ㈱（本社:大阪市北区、社長:安田純夫）は、２００８年６月、超高強力ポリエチレン繊維「ダイニーマ(R)」の生産設備を増設することを決定いたしましたので、お知らせいたします。
１．背景
日本国内での「ダイニーマ(R)」の主な用途は、ロープ、釣り糸、手袋、ヘルメットなどであり、近年、堅調な需要に支えられ、大きく販売を伸ばしてきました。
他方、生産能力は２００８年１月に増強し、1600トン／年になったものの、依然、供給不足が続いています。現在の用途拡大に加え、今後見込まれる新たな分野の需要に追いつかないことが予想されます。
このような旺盛な需要に対応するため、日本ダイニーマ㈱は1600トン／年の生産設備を新設し、生産能力を倍増することにいたしました。
２．新設備の概要

増設完了後の総生産能力 3200トン／年
